Raising Coral
Oceanographer Joanie Kleypas, a member of the national UHF Council, is the Project Lead on a mission to restore coral reefs in Costa Rica using coral propagation techniques. In less than one year, they have successfully propagated three coral species in underwater nurseries, and out-planted them to local reefs in the beautiful Golfo Dulce. They plan to scale up their pilot operation to benefit reef recovery.
