Living Earth Community
CUHF member Mary Evelyn Tucker, co-founder of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology with her husband John Grim, recently launched a website for the Living Earth Community—a project brings together diverse perspectives to explore one profound idea: the more-than-human world is alive, intelligent, and deeply interconnected with us.
The website is an ongoing knowledge commons for educators, scientists, lawyers, spiritual leaders, artists, and engaged citizens seeking to reimagine humanity’s relationship with Earth’s marvelous biodiversity. It offers curated resources, visionary projects, and actionable tools designed to transform the ethical, legal, and social systems that shape our shared future.
Based in many ways on Thomas Berry’s idea that “the Earth is a communion of subjects, not a collection of objects,” it also draws on his ideas that we need new Earth Law to assist the myriad species and ecosystems in the “more than human world.”
We believe that when people celebrate biodiversity and recognize the intelligence and creativity of the living world, they will be inspired to act more responsibly in relation to Earth’s systems. Through Living Earth Community, we hope to spark that awareness and offer resources to support systemic change.
